Dear Friends
In today’s world, millions of women are living with a diagnosis of ‘cancer’. The researchers all over the world are
looking for newer and better ways to prevent, detect and treat various malignancies the women are afflicted with.
Also focus is on improving quality of life of people with cancer, both during and after treatment.
The current issue deals with some important issues of cancers specific to women. You will read about cancer screening
strategies. Of course, being in India we have to develop indigenous & innovative methods suitable for a source-scarce
country. A beautiful review of newer molecular diagnostics of cancers, new surgical guidelines for radical hysterectomy
and surgical tips from experienced gynecologic-oncologists are the hall marks of this issue.
There is a definite need to have campaigns to raise gyne-cancer awareness among women and health care providers
and develop special groups and audio-visual materials/posters/fact sheets/brochures etc. As always, in keeping with
our theme of women-wellness, the wellness corner explores the scope & organization of Palliative care in India and
pain relief strategies in cancers to improve quality of life amongst survivors.
So Dear Readers, stay positive, eat well, be active and maintain a healthy life style to keep the menace of cancer at
bay!!
